Some recipes look simpler than they taste. ‘Nuff said.
Although, watch out for the giant garlic chunks (I didn’t).
STEAK PIZZAIOLA
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 20 oz. sirloin steak
- Kosher salt
- 4 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 bell peppers (1 red, 1 yellow) julienned
- 6 jarred pepperoncini, sliced thin
- 15 oz. crushed tomatoes
- ½ tsp oregano
- ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- ¾ cup water
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Season steak liberally with salt. Sear steak in pan, 2 minutes per side. Once seared, set aside.
Add garlic to the pan. Once sizzling, add peppers and onion and cook until slightly softened, 4 minutes. Add the tomatoes, pepperoncini, oregano, pepper flakes, and water. Bring to a rapid simmer. Nestle steak in pan. Cook steak in mixture, 3 minutes per side. Remove steak and place on cutting board to rest. Simmer mixture until thickened.
Slice steak and split among 4 plates. Top each with equal measures of skillet mixture. Serve with a piece of focaccia bread.
Makes 4 servings. Enjoy!
