To all the folks out there living in Northeast Ohio who haven’t been to either of the Danny Boy’s Pizza locations — shame on you. It’s awesome. You owe it to yourselves to check them out.
They’re set up in four places: Rocky River, Canton, Chesterland, and Sandusky. The Lakewood spot is the original, but only has a dozen tables and major wait most nights. The Canton restaurant is equipped with far more room, but is a bit too commercial.
Yesterday, the missus and I made a trek up to Lakewood after moving yet another carload of boxes to the new place. All that moving plus no breakfast makes for only half the appetite you need when going to Danny Boy’s. They have a serious portion control problem, and if you have qualms about paying for three meals at once, then I understand, but it’s worth it.
First off, a word to the wise — breadsticks the size of sandwich buns come with everything. Don’t bother ordering them as an appetizer, because you’re getting that much regardless. (Full Disclosure: I have, on more than one occasion, ordered a plate of breadsticks as my meal. They’re that good.)
I got the Old Blue Eyes Macaroni and Cheese. For me, it was a bit too much sauce. Mac & cheese should be glazed with cheese, not drowning in it. The addition of chicken, bacon, and broccoli helped to calm down the pure cheesiness of the dish. All in all, I enjoyed it. It ranks a solid 6.2 on the mac-o-meter. I’ll post an update on whether it re-heats well.
